The Role of Hydraulic Fluids in Heavy Machinery Operations

Hydraulic systems are the muscle behind modern construction, mining, and manufacturing equipment. The hydraulic fluid flowing through these systems is expected to perform under immense pressure, and choosing the wrong type can lead to catastrophic pump failure.

Multitasking Fluids

While the primary job of hydraulic fluid is to transmit power, it must also lubricate the internal pumps and valves, seal clearances between moving parts, and carry heat away from the system. To achieve this, quality fluids are fortified with anti-wear (AW) additives.

Contamination Control

The biggest enemy of any hydraulic system is contamination. Even microscopic particles or trace amounts of water can degrade the fluid's performance. Maintaining clean filters and using high-quality fluid with strong demulsibility (water-separating) properties is essential for extending equipment lifespan.
