Shell Naturelle S2 Hydraulic Fluid 15 (transitioning to Shell PANOLIN S4 HLP Synth EAL 15) is an advanced, fully synthetic biodegradable hydraulic fluid (ISO 15380 HEES classification) formulated with synthetic esters and ashless anti-wear additives. Designed for power transmission systems operating in environmentally sensitive areas, it features a mean biobased content of over 80% (ASTM D 6866) and is readily biodegradable (OECD 301B >60%), minimizing ecological impact in the event of accidental spillage. Its naturally high viscosity index provides excellent multi-grade temperature-viscosity performance, ensuring responsive operation from low-temperature cold starts up to maximum operating temperatures (bulk fluid limit 90°C). The zinc-free, ashless additive system provides superior protection against wear, oxidation, and corrosion, while offering outstanding filterability, water separation, and air release properties to maintain high hydraulic system efficiency. It is fully compliant with major environmental standards—including the EU Ecolabel, US EPA 2013 Vessel General Permit (VGP), and USDA BioPreferred program—and is compatible with fluoroelastomer (FPM/FKM) seals like Viton.
